There are a few tricks that can be played to get rail tickets cheap to Brighton.

The first is to book in advance. According to moneysavingexpert if you can book 12 weeks ahead you get the best prices but even just before leaving your house you can save a lot of money booking on-line. The least cheap tickets are those sold in the ticket booth! A ticket booked in advance on average about 40% cheaper!

Brighton resident Josh Russell has a great tip on his blog that is specific to getting a cheap ticket from London to Brighton, it is only good if you are going to the day, I’ve got to thank him for this tip it has been handy:) The full version is here but in short:

1) Go to a Victoria station ticket booth

2) Ask for a Super Off-Peak Day Return from Brighton to London, yes that’s the opposite of the way you are travelling, that’s the trick

3) If they refuse saying its not possible, tell them it is and ask them to try after all if it’s not valid then the ticket machine will not issue it

4) Use the return ticket first for your outward journey and the outward ticket on your return, this is perfectly within the rules

Nor is it the Brightonian nonconformist attitude or love of a theatrical gesture, deep-rooted though that is. You could argue that attitude stretches back to the arrival of the Prince Regent, who moved to an obscure south-coast fishing village and built a deranged Indo-Saracenic palace there, largely to get away from his parents – who among us hasn’t entertained thoughts roughly along those lines, usually late afternoon on Boxing Day? – and which, you could argue, links the Brighton Pride carnival, the famously melodramatic headlines in local paper, the Argus (WAGNER RUINED OUR LIVES, WINDOW CLEANER KILLED BY GIANT PENCIL), and the crowd of around 40 people a friend recently saw assembled outside the Churchill shopping centre, their desire to visit Debenhams overridden by their desire to watch two seagulls having a fight.

The city centre Travelodge is right in the heart of the shopping area, near the North Laines, Churchill Square and the Pavilion, you couldn’t really get more slap bang in the middle of things, perfect if you are here to party!

The other one is out near Preston Park which is about a mile walk from the centre, it’s a bit of an odd location and may be more useful if you are seeking a location away from the hastle and bustle or if you don’t want to fight the traffic in to town as its on a main road (the A23).

This is a gem of a cheap Brighton tip, for under a fiver you get as much as you can eat Indian food!

The food is more like Indian home cooking than the standard UK Indian restaurant fayre (that’s a good thing) and its vegetarian although there is a similar (slightly more expensive) establishment round the corner on North Street that serves meat.

The restaurant itself is a strange mix of Indian and Spanish, it looks like minimum effort was made to convert it after they moved in many years ago. Still there is a nice enough ambiance and this place is all about huge quantities of tasty food for very little money.

Bombay Aloo is on Ship Street and is heartily recommended for cheap Brighton nosh!

My favorite places are The Atlas Lounge on Western Road which has some very comfy chairs and The Farm pub on Farm road in Hove, which is run by a web developer and has a 16MB connection!

Another great place to get free WiFi is the beach, most of the beach is connected thanks to an organisation called loose connection who set up one of the first free wireless access networks in the country.
